Multitudes on Monday is based One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, the New York Times Bestseller by Ann Voskamp and her practice of listing one thousand things to be grateful for. This week, the theme revolves around my very small writing space. I also keep a weekly visual record of gratitude over at my pink blog.
Although limited in both width and depth, I’m grateful for #11, this beautiful antique writing desk my husband gave me years ago on my birthday. On top is #12, my laptop, also a gift from my husband, which replaced my earlier Dell laptop. I love this computer, even with all the dings thanks to the TSA agent who last year dropped it on the floor of Dulles Airport.
#13 I know glasses are a strange thing to be thankful for, but I LOVE my glasses as well as the Greenbriar Vision Center who coated the lenses with an anti-glare film which made long days in front of my computer much, much easier.
#14 My writing notebook, devoted to my current WIP, which I take everywhere.
# 15 My collection of writing craft books, reference books, and dictionaries. As a librarian, I have a terrible habit re-indexing books I love because most indexes are terrible, or worse, computer-generated. Most of my books I have built indexes for, as well as annotated bibliographies. I guess all writers have their procrastination habits, and this is mine.
#16 My Jane Austen desk clock. She keeps me honest and my ever-widening bottom in the chair.
#17 My old, ugly, yet very, very comfortable desk chair.
#18 My Alphasmart which, thanks to Stephanie Bond‘s amazing advice, has doubled my writing output.
#19 My visual journal which helps me “see” where the characters are going and why the story never seems to keep up.
#20 The congratulations cards I received from some of my dearest friends after I learned I finaled in this year’s RWA Golden Heart contest.
Now I’d love to know what you’re grateful for.
