For the past few weeks, Calum Prioleau (a character in my Deadly Force Series), has been hosting a Christmas party here on the blog. It was a party filled with Christmas caroling, cookies, and charades. The party, like the series, was also mostly male.
Now that it’s the New Year, Calum’s twin sister Carina (also a U.S. Senator from Georgia) has offered to host a New Year’s Brunch for the women in the series. Carina is hosting the party in her home, not far from Calum’s, in Savannah’s historic district. And she’s invited us to come along!
Carina Prioleau: So my twin brother has made new friends. Friends that have him caused him no end of trouble and even put him in danger. I wasn’t happy with his choices, but I’ve accepted them. As long as his new buddies keep him safe, I’ll help them however I can.
However, I’m tired of these all-male parties and decided to invite the few women who know about the Deadly Force men to a New Year’s Brunch. The include Juliet Montfort (Rafe’s wife), Sarah Munro (a local historian), and Samantha (Pete’s girlfriend).
To start with, I’m serving my favorite New Year’s drink: Buck’s Fizz Cocktail, a combination of prosecco and orange juice. I hope you join us for brunch filled with fabulous food and some good old-fashioned gossip about our favorite men. It’s a perfect way to start the New Year!
Buck’s Fizz
This is similar to a Mimosa. The main difference is that this drink is 2/3 Champagne and 1/3 orange juice. Where a Mimosa is half Champagne and half orange juice. A slight difference, but enough to warrant a new name.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 4 ounces Champagne
- Orange twist for garnish
Instructions

Fill a Champagne glass 1/3 of the way with orange juice. Top off the glass with 2/3 Champagne. Do not stir! Add an orange twist for garnish and enjoy!
