  • 2 Tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon dry mustard
  • 2 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 Tablespoons Kosher salt
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 Tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 Tablespoons homemade sloppy joe seasoning mix
  • 1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 rolls

Instructions

Seasoning

  1. In a small bowl, stir together all of the seasoning mix ingredients. Store in a 1-pint mason jar with an airtight side (will keep for 6 months)

Sloppy Joes

  1. Brown the meat in a skillet and drain the fat. Stir in 3 Tablespoons of the seasoning mix, tomato sauce, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Reduce to a simmer, cover and cook for 5 minutes. Remove the lid and keep cooking until meat mixture thickens. Serve on rolls.

Recipe Notes

If you like your sloppy joes spicier, add the red pepper flakes.

This seasoning mix can also be doubled or tripled, but it can only be stored for 6 months.

This meat reheats well and makes great leftovers, but it does not freeze well.
