In my upcoming release ONE DARK WISH, the heroine Sarah Munro is an 18th century historian searching for the truth behind why Rebecca Prioleau, a 16-year-old Puritan girl, was accused of witchcraft and murdered in Savannah, GA in 1699. Unfortunately, this search attracts the attention of a savage arms dealer and the leader of the Fianna, a mysterious group of assassins. Her interest in Rebecca’s murder also brings her in contact with the hero, ex-Green Beret Nate Walker.

While Sarah and Nate race against time to solve the mystery of this young girl’s murder and to save Nate’s men (a group of disgraced ex-Green Berets desperate to regain their honor), they fall in love. It is a romance, after all!

Before the story starts, Sarah has spent years studying Rebecca Prioleau and one of the things she discovered is that Rebecca was considered a healer. In order to get to know Rebecca better, Sarah collected as many of Rebecca’s recipes and recreated them for her own personal use.

In this blog space, I’m sharing Sarah’s herbal recipes with you. Last week I posted Sarah’s Soothing Salve and today it’s an immunity-boosting Lemon Ginger Tea. This tea uses loose black tea leaves but you could also substitute green tea leaves or any other leaves of your choice. Including decaf. 🙂

Made with lemon, ginger, and mint leaves, this tea is a perfect drink for building up the body’s immunity. It fights various infections and illnesses such as headaches, sore throats, and both nasal and chest congestion.

SARAH MUNRO’S LEMON GINGER TEA

  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and minced
  • 4 fresh peppermint leaves
  • 3 whole black pepper corns
  • 1 fresh lemon, cut into small wedges
  • 3 Tablespoons honey
  • 3 teaspoons loose black tea leaves of your choice

In a medium saucepan, add water and bring to a simmer. Stir in the ginger, peppermint leaves, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil and simmer for four minutes. Stir in the tea leaves.

Turn off the heat and steep the tea leaves for 8 minutes.

Pour tea through a strainer into a teapot. Add the honey. When you serve the tea, squeeze in a wedge of lemon to taste.

It is important to do your due diligence before foraging, harvesting, and/or consuming any type of medicinal plant.

  • If you are taking any medications, talk to your doctor about any potential drug interactions.
  • If you are allergic to anything, make sure whatever you are foraging is not in the same family. Example: While dandelions are typically considered safe, those who are allergic to ragweed, latex, daisies, or any other plants in the same or similar families, may not be able to consume dandelion.

Always research potential side effectsdosage recommendations, and how to properly prepare and consume each medicinal plant.

Always make sure you are foraging what you believe to be. Fully prepare and study the anatomy before harvesting wild plants.

Always make sure your kitchen/work area is clean and that all materials are sterilized.

Do not forage plants from areas that have been sprayed within the past 2 years at the very least.
